Upgrade D money machine PT 2

Following on from the previous post about the POS systems here in Jamaica. The tedious long lines at ATMs and the lengthy processes in general. One process that is not currently available here in Jamaica is cash withdrawal at POS with a Debit Card. A simple facility that is so very popular and convenient in the modern world of banking. I'm recalling the days when person's were able to cash a cheque at the Supermarket. There does not seem to be any reason why this facility could not be made available, at least at Supermarket retailers here. The cash back facility is really just adding a cash withdrawal to the final bill.

B anking practices in general here are really slow and greatly in need of upgrade and updating. Still I have noticed efforts by most of the commercial banks in Jamaica in the last few years to upgrade their debit cards to ensure customers have access to Visa card payments. However what is also needed is updating of the actual POS card machines. Although some are now using the tap feature for contactless payments. Chip and pin has long been introduced but the minimum card payment amounts and fees are still discouraging customers from adopting a card only, cash free lifestyle. This is inconvenient to customers who either are forced to use an ABM to withdraw cash for small purchases or most times seem to be expected to buy more. There are no minimum payment amounts in the UK. All card payments are accepted at POS as long as funds are available. And there are too many inconsistencies in the processes here, for example within one organisation Eg. Hi-Low supermarkets at the branch in Fairvie...

World Consumer Rights Day

March 15th is Global Consumer Rights Day or Consumer Awareness Day! Everyday of the year is another day with another "theme" or agenda to celebrate and causes to champion. In fact upon doing some research I found that there are multiple causes for each day ranging from the most trivial, fun and hilarious subjects to others that are more well known and regarded, historical and serious. This Day for Consumer Rights was founded in part by President of the US John F Kennedy in 1962, earlier in the same year that Jamaica received "Independence". Here in Jamaica I think there really needs to be more done to bring to consciousness the real need to fully comprehend the importance of Consumer Rights and Consumer Protection. This has always been a grey area, here as we are expected to disregard a lot of our rights here living in the "developing" world even our Human Rights, Constitutional Rights and Civil rights in general. But how much do persons really understand...
